Answer...... No, the primary function of police officers is not to raise revenue for the City of Lawton. They are encouraged to write as many tickets as they deem appropriate to control traffic violations. For conscientious officers, the primary function of writing a traffic citation is to prevent future violations that may save someone's life or protect their property when motorists obey the traffic laws.

Answer...... The City of Lawton uses a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system to prioritize calls. High priority calls involving immediate danger to citizens are promptly dispatched. Responses to these calls usually take less than 5 minutes. Lesser priority calls such as property loss crimes where the suspect has left or there is no known suspect are dispatched as soon as officers become available. Responses to these calls may take up to a few hours. If circumstances warrant a faster response, please let the dispatcher know the reason for the urgency and every effort will be made to accomodate your request.

Answer...... The bell was the Lawton Police Department's first means of communication. The bell was mounted on top of the old City Hall in the early 1900's. When a police officer was needed to answer a call, he was summoned to the Police Station by the ringing of the bell. It remained as the only communication means until 1931 when the two police cars were equipped with radio receivers only. In 1936, the first two-way radio systems were placed in use.

Answer...... The curfew violation law is found is Section 16-505 of the City Code. According to the code, it is illegal for any one under the age of 18 to be in any public place or in any public establishment between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m. There are exceptions allowed under certain conditions such as when they are with their parents, when they are working or on their way home from working, when they are going home from a sanctioned school function, etc. There are responsibilities and procedures outlined in the Code that are more fully explained in the Code. Be sure and refer to the Code or contact the Police Department for further information.

Answer......It is illegal to discharge any where in the city limits. The City Council has approved certain areas at both of the City lakes for July 4th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. only! The areas at Lake Lawtonka are: at Robinson's Landing in the ball field, at the North Recreation Area in the Day Use Area, and from the Boat Club north to the Group Use 1 area. At Lake Ellsworth, the areas are: at Fisherman's Cove from the road to the lake; from Ralph's Resort to the dam, in the Chandler Creek camping area, and at the Collier Landing camping area.
